Eric Krug’s Story

On April 11th, 1997, Eric’s life changed forever. Eric was a Junior at Oglethorpe University, living his dream playing baseball. He played 2nd base and was having an amazing year. Then, on the night of his 21st Birthday, Eric and his friends went out to celebrate after a big win against a rival college (University of West Georgia).

When the night came to an end, Eric and his girlfriend climbed into a taxi, but at the last second, they decided to ride back to the university with their friends. The driver of the car they got into had been drinking too (she was 19 years old, great student soccer athlete). Unfortunately the driver crashed into a tree on campus killing her boyfriend (Eric’s roommate, teammate, and friend) and Eric suffered several injuries but the worst was a severe head injury that resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury.

Eric is confined to a wheelchair most of the time but can use a walker for limited distances. His amazing mom is Eric’s caretaker due to his disabilities. Eric utilizes his IPAD to help communicate, has maintained a positive attitude, and continues working out and making people smile.
